CD/DVD data recoverySimilar to other supports storage, data loss incidents can be divided into two major categories: LOGICAL and PHYSICAL. LOGICAL incidents are characterized by errors in the file system, (unclosed session, accidental formatting, etc). If these are formatted in FAST FORMAT mode , only TOC (table of content) will be deleted and the data will be recovered. If they are formatted in FULL FORMAT mode, the recovery is impossible because the information is physically removed. Unclosed sessions involve wrong unwritten or written TOC. Usually this type of incident is easy to solve. PHYSICAL incidents are characterized by alteration in the recording medium (scratched surface, cracked or drilled discs etc.).
